What do you do when its summertime in Texas and the mercury is climbing past the century mark? Hey, wait a minute, did someone mention "mercury" and "climbing"? Well, if you're Troop 57 then any time is a good time for a little PYRO! Building and flying a model rocket satisfies one of the requirements for the Space Exploration merit badge. Earlier in the month the troop divided into several teams and each team built a model rocket. For the camp out, we again travelled to Mr. McNair's "Oleo Farms" on Friday night where we camped until Sunday. It was only fair, since the last time we'd been there had been in sub-freezing temperatures. We figured that returning during the 'dog days of summer' would somehow even everything out. The troop spent Saturday drilling holes in the sky with the rockets they'd assembled. The guys competed in the categories of altitude, time aloft, and recovery closest to a target. We had a great time there. So did Mr. McNair and his family. He told us afterwards that they had enjoyed from their front porch the show we put on for them on Saturday. Thanks, Mr. McNair, for once again allowing us to camp on your property. Troop 57 would like it known that no animals were harmed during the making of this experience!
